Difference between foam and thermoelastic mattress

When it’s time to buy a new mattress, there’s no shortage of choices. Foam or thermoelastic? This decision can be difficult, but understanding the differences between these two types of mattresses can help you make a smarter choice. In this article, we’ll look at the main differences between foam and thermoelastic mattresses, helping you understand which one will best meet your needs.

Foam mattresses

A foam mattress is made of resilient polyurethane foam, which has several varieties. The main factor that characterizes foam mattresses is density. It is the density that affects the firmness of the mattress, which is considered its most important feature. The choice of density usually depends not only on preference, but also on the weight of the user.

It is worth noting that polyurethane foam has been used in the mattress industry for many years, so for many people, it is the first choice. The foam is safe, of good quality and provides support to the spine during sleep. A mattress made of this material is recommended both for people sleeping alone and for couples. It also has the advantage of anti-allergic properties.

Polyurethane foam mattresses are popular for their comfort, versatility and, above all, affordability. However, the lifespan and resistance to deformation of this type of foam are noticeably lower than those of other materials, and this means the need for more frequent mattress dimensions.

The most important properties of a foam mattress

Flexibility

Mattresses made of polyurethane foam are flexible, which means that they adapt to the shape of the user’s body.

Mattress thickness

The polyurethane foam mattress has an average thickness of up to 20 cm.

Ventilation

Air can flow freely through the mattress, which prevents moisture buildup and keeps the mattress fresh for a longer period of time.

Hypoallergenicity

Polyurethane foam is hypoallergenic, meaning it is unlikely to cause allergic reactions.

Maintenance of cleanliness

Not all mattresses have a removable cover, so keeping it clean may not be as easy.

Resistance to distortion

Medium resistance to deformation results in more frequent mattress replacements.

Thermoelastic mattresses

Thermoelastic mattresses are gaining popularity in the market. This is not at all surprising, since the properties of thermoelastic foam are far superior to the polyurethane foam described above.

The main advantage of thermoelastic foam is that it responds to the pressure of the body and adapts to its temperature. This makes the mattress a universal product, regardless of body type. In practice, this means that two people of different weights can easily sleep on it.

The mattress is anti-allergenic, provides optimal air circulation, and protects against the proliferation of microorganisms. These types of mattresses are recommended by physiotherapists for people with various spinal conditions.

The most important properties of a thermoelastic mattress:

High flexibility

It adapts to the shape and weight of the body, providing adequate support for the spine.

Mattress thickness

The mattress is 26 cm thick, of which as much as 7 cm is thermoelastic foam.

Ventilation

Air can flow freely through the mattress, which prevents moisture buildup and keeps the mattress fresh for a longer period of time.

Hypoallergenicity

Polyurethane foam is hypoallergenic, allergy-friendly.

Maintenance of cleanliness

The removable cover can be easily washed.

Resistance to distortion

High resistance to deformation makes it a mattress for years to come.

In conclusion, a polyurethane foam mattress and a thermoelastic mattress are two different products. Unfortunately, many companies take advantage of customers’ ignorance and tempt them with low prices for a foam mattress, which de facto does not have the same properties as a thermoelastic mattress. Despite the similarities, it is the thermoelastic mattress that is considered to be a mattress for years to come, which, in addition, assists in the treatment of various spinal conditions.
