When choosing a bed and mattress, in addition to the specific model and its characteristics, attention must also be paid to the right size. What are the dimensions of a single mattress and what are the dimensions of a double mattress in order to offer maximum sleeping comfort?
Single mattress: how to choose the size?
Single and double mattresses are available in different sizes. When thinking about the size of mattress to choose, one must obviously consider one’s figure and build. It is worth remembering that the length of the mattress should be 15-20 cm longer than the length of the body.
The width of the mattress depends mainly on the number of people and their body structure. Single mattresses are available in widths of 80/200, 90/200, 100/200, 120/200 and even 140/200 cm. While it is assumed that the 90/200 mattress is sufficient for effective recovery, the 80/200 variant may be too narrow (the person’s figure is decisive here) and contribute to a lack of comfort, which affects the overall effectiveness of recovery. Of course, individual differences in build must be taken into account. For a slender person, an 80/200 or 90/200 mattress may be sufficient, whereas for a heavier person it is completely insufficient, for whom a 100/200 or 120/200 mattress would be more suitable. Before making the purchase, it is good to consider whether we are among those people who toss and turn a lot during the night or whether we prefer to sleep in one position. It is obvious that a person who tosses and turns often during sleep and at the same time has a larger build will sleep more comfortably on 120/200 or even 140/200 mattresses. When buying a mattress (and a bed), it is always better to count on a wider range than to find out later that you lack sleeping comfort and space to turn around freely.
Double mattress: how to choose the size?
The double mattress is most often available in sizes 140/200, 160/200 and 180/200. It should be noted, however, that the minimum width for one person in a 140/200 double mattress is only 70 cm. In this case, maximum comfort for each couple is offered by a wider mattress, i.e. products with a width of 160/200 or 180/200 cm, so that 80 or 90 cm is available for each person. If we have (or plan to have) young children sleeping with their parents, every centimetre counts and 180/200 is a much better choice than 160/200. It seems that 20 cm does not change much, but practice shows that this distance makes a difference with a turning child.
What should be the best mattress?
Today, spring mattresses and normal foam mattresses are gradually being abandoned. The latest technologies have enabled the development of innovative thermo-elastic mattresses that guarantee a more effective and healthy sleep.
Thermo-elastic mattresses and pillows are filled with a special foam consisting of thousands of small free chambers. Thanks to this, the user avoids the ‘collapsing’ effect in the mattress and every part of the body is supported evenly. As the name suggests, thermo-elastic mattresses also have important thermoregulatory properties. By absorbing excess moisture, they make every morning pleasant and comfortable. Furthermore, they are designed in such a way that thermo-elastic mattresses do not create a habitat for dust mites, which are dangerous for allergy sufferers and undesirable for everyone. Unlike other types of products, thermo-elastic mattresses are 100 per cent hypoallergenic, making them an ideal solution for allergy sufferers.
Sleeping on an uncomfortable and unhealthy surface usually does not guarantee sufficient regeneration of the body. Over time, this can lead to sleep deprivation, with health-threatening consequences such as depression, obesity problems, chronic headaches, distraction, irritability and reduced emotional intelligence. Choosing a thermo-elastic mattress of the right size to ensure a comfortable sleep becomes an investment in your future health. The beneficial effects of sleeping on a high-quality mattress will be felt from the moment you wake up!
